About CloudCompare.run

CloudCompare.run is an independent website for inspecting a point cloud, making a smaller working copy, and exporting it for the next step in your workflow.

Who operates this website

The site operates under the name CloudCompare.run. You can contact the operator at [email protected] for support, privacy questions or corrections to our guides. We do not represent the CloudCompare project and are not its official online service.

What the tools are for

Use the viewer to inspect PLY, LAS, LAZ and E57 point clouds; crop an axis-aligned region; reduce point counts with random or spatial subsampling; and download PLY or XYZ results. The aim is a short browser workflow without an account. The 3D preview runs in your browser, while uploaded files are processed on the server. This service supports a limited set of operations. It is not a replacement for the full desktop application: it does not provide scan registration, cloud-to-cloud distance analysis, mesh processing or coordinate-system reprojection. Preview measurements use sampled points and source coordinate units, and are not survey-grade measurements.

Our relationship to the software

The service uses the open-source CloudCompare project for native point-cloud processing, alongside libraries for import and browser visualization. Those projects are developed by their respective contributors. Our contribution is the web interface, temporary-session workflow, selected format handling and site-specific explanations. See Third-party software for license and attribution information.

How we produce the guides

Our worked examples use synthetic data rather than private customer scans. The case studies include screenshots from this interface, tested settings, point counts and measured file sizes. Each states its test date and limitations. Results describe the tested input and software version; they are not promises about every scan or measurements of survey accuracy. We use AI assistance when developing the site and drafting or translating text. The published case-study figures come from running the actual tool. The three detailed case studies are translated in full; their original English-interface screenshots and measurements are shared across languages. Older introductory guides use concise localized editions. If you find a discrepancy, send the page address and a description so it can be checked.

Your files and practical limits

Files belong to a private temporary session and expire two hours after session creation. You can delete the session earlier. Keep your own originals and download any results you need; this site is not long-term storage. Current limits include 100 MB per file, 5,000,000 points and up to 64 E57 scans. For details about processing, deletion and network services, read File privacy.
