How to view your point cloud

  1. Upload a PLY, LAS, LAZ or E57 file, or try the sample cloud.
  2. Drag to rotate, scroll to zoom, or use two fingers to zoom and pan on a touch screen.
  3. Inspect the point count and extent. Use Measure to pick two visible preview points.

Try an example

Try the sample pavilion, rotate to see the roof, then use Fit view to return to the whole cloud. Change Point size to make sparse areas easier to see.

Before you start

The viewer displays up to 80,000 sampled points. Measurements use those preview points and source coordinate units; they are not survey-grade measurements. Uploading sends the file to the server for processing.

Can I download the file after viewing?

Yes. Download selected cloud returns the normalized PLY, while Download original upload returns the unchanged source file. You can also continue to crop, subsample or convert the selected cloud.

Files stay in a temporary 2-hour session. Switching tools in this tab keeps your uploaded clouds and results. Read about file privacy.

Read the preview without losing track of the source

Preview points and total points are different

The counter below the viewer shows both numbers. Up to 80,000 points are displayed to keep the scene manageable. Cropping and subsampling still operate on all points in the selected cloud, and downloading the selected cloud does not download just the preview.

Use extent to check your coordinate scale

Extent is the difference between the maximum and minimum on each axis, in source coordinate units. If the source uses meters, these values are in meters; the site does not detect or convert the unit. Fit view frames the cloud without changing its coordinates.

Choose the view that answers your question

Rotate to inspect the shape and adjust Point size when the preview is hard to see. Measure uses two picked preview points. For a small feature that is hard to inspect, crop its surrounding region and view that new result.

Common questions

Why do points look different after I crop the cloud?

The result receives its own sampled preview. A smaller region may display more of its points than the overview did. Compare total point counts and bounds as well as the image.

What can I do if the 3D preview fails?

Retry the preview after a connection problem. If the browser cannot provide WebGL, processing and downloads can still be used. An unavailable preview alone does not mean the uploaded file is invalid.

Service limits: 100 MB per upload, 5,000,000 points per cloud, one running job, 2-hour sessions. E57 merges up to 64 scans using stored poses, with common RGB/intensity only. Registration and cloud-to-cloud distance are not available.
