How to convert E57 to PLY

  1. Upload an E57 file, or try the synthetic two-scan sample.
  2. Inspect the merged cloud and open Data & processing details. PLY is preselected.
  3. Click Convert cloud, then download the new PLY result.

Try an example

The synthetic sample contains two colored panels, 1,000 points each. The second scan has a stored rotation and translation. Import combines them into 2,000 points with RGB and intensity.

Before you start

Up to 64 scans and 5,000,000 total source points within 100 MB. All nonempty scans are merged using stored poses; this does not register scans or reproject coordinates. RGB and intensity are retained only when available across all scans without their invalid-attribute flags. RGB must be integer 0–255. Scan boundaries, images, CRS and other metadata are omitted.

Can I select a single scan or export E57?

No. This tool merges all scans and writes PLY or XYZ. Download original upload preserves the unchanged E57 file during the session. Keep that source if you need scan structure or metadata.

Files stay in a temporary 2-hour session. Switching tools in this tab keeps your uploaded clouds and results. Read about file privacy.

Keep a working cloud and its original scan file

Stored poses place the scans together

Each scan is transformed by its stored rotation and translation before merging. A scan without a pose keeps its local coordinates. If the source scans are not already aligned, conversion will not align them. No duplicate-point removal is performed.

Check which attributes survive

RGB and intensity must be present in every nonempty scan without their respective invalid-attribute flag fields. Otherwise that attribute is omitted from the merged cloud and reported in Data & processing details. Supported RGB uses integer values from 0 to 255; intensity is stored as a 32-bit float.

Keep E57 for scan structure

The PLY contains a single point cloud. It does not retain scan boundaries, embedded photographs, CRS metadata, normals or timestamps. Download and keep the original E57 when another application needs that information.

Common questions

Does conversion preserve the source point count?

Points flagged as invalid are removed. All remaining points from every nonempty scan are merged; the details report scan and removed-point counts.

What does the sample demonstrate?

It is an original synthetic example, not a scanner capture: two colored panels with 1,000 points each. The second panel uses a 90-degree rotation and a translation stored in its scan pose.

Service limits: 100 MB per upload, 5,000,000 points per cloud, one running job, 2-hour sessions. E57 merges up to 64 scans using stored poses, with common RGB/intensity only. Registration and cloud-to-cloud distance are not available.
