How to convert E57 to XYZ

  1. Upload an E57 file, or try the synthetic two-scan sample.
  2. Inspect the merged point count and keep XYZ selected.
  3. Click Convert cloud, then download the coordinate text file.

Try an example

The two-scan sample produces 2,000 XYZ rows after applying the stored scan poses. Each row contains three whitespace-separated numbers, with no header.

Before you start

Up to 100 MB, 64 scans and 5,000,000 total source points, including points later removed as invalid. Stored rotation and translation are applied; no registration, reprojection or unit conversion is performed. XYZ omits RGB, intensity, scan boundaries, images and all metadata.

How do I keep colors and continue editing?

Choose E57 to PLY for supported RGB and intensity. An XYZ result can be previewed and downloaded but cannot be processed further here. Select the original imported PLY working cloud to crop or subsample.

Files stay in a temporary 2-hour session. Switching tools in this tab keeps your uploaded clouds and results. Read about file privacy.

Export coordinates with their context

Read the XYZ file as three columns

Each line contains X, Y and Z separated by whitespace, without a header. Stored scan poses are applied before export. Twelve decimal places are written, but that formatting does not improve source measurement accuracy.

Record units and the reference system separately

XYZ has no field for a coordinate reference system, unit or scan identifier. No reprojection or unit conversion is performed. Keep that context with the file when sharing it with another application.

Choose PLY if you need point attributes

XYZ drops colors, intensity and all other attributes even if the E57 importer retained them. Use E57 to PLY when you need supported attributes, or select the imported working cloud to crop and subsample before exporting.

Common questions

Can I convert just one scan?

Scan selection is not available. Prepare an E57 containing the scans you want before uploading; this tool merges all nonempty scans.

Why can the XYZ download be larger?

XYZ writes coordinates as text, while E57 stores binary point records. File size depends on the source encoding and attributes; this conversion is not a compression tool.

Service limits: 100 MB per upload, 5,000,000 points per cloud, one running job, 2-hour sessions. E57 merges up to 64 scans using stored poses, with common RGB/intensity only. Registration and cloud-to-cloud distance are not available.
