How to crop your point cloud

  1. Upload and select your cloud. The six fields start at its full bounds.
  2. Adjust each minimum and maximum. The outlined box shows the region to keep.
  3. Run Crop cloud and select the new result. The original remains available.

Try an example

Try the sample pavilion. Set Minimum Z to 103 while leaving the other bounds unchanged, then crop to keep its higher points. Reset to cloud bounds restores the full box for the selected cloud.

Before you start

The box follows the X, Y and Z axes; rotated boxes and polygon selection are not supported. Enter coordinates in the source coordinate system. A box containing no points fails without replacing the original.

Does cropping change my coordinates?

No coordinate-system conversion is applied. Large coordinates are offset for processing and restored in the exported result. The crop bounds use the original source coordinates.

Files stay in a temporary 2-hour session. Switching tools in this tab keeps your uploaded clouds and results. Read about file privacy.

Set crop bounds in the source coordinate system

Start with the full bounds

The six fields begin with the selected cloud’s minimum and maximum X, Y and Z values. Change one axis at a time when narrowing the box. Each minimum must be strictly smaller than its maximum; a zero-width box is not accepted.

Keep the coordinate offset in mind

A scan with X coordinates near 500,000 needs crop bounds in that same range. Entering X values near zero would select a different location. The viewport centers large coordinates for display, but the crop fields use the source coordinates.

Check the result before the next operation

Cropping keeps points inside an axis-aligned box. It does not rotate the cloud or select an arbitrary polygon. The box is drawn over a sampled preview, while the crop itself processes all points. Review the result’s count and extent before downloading.

Common questions

Why does the crop contain no points?

Check the selected input and all six coordinates, especially large coordinate offsets and height ranges. Reset to cloud bounds, then narrow the box again. An empty crop fails while the original stays available.

Can I undo a crop?

Select the original cloud from Your clouds to make another crop. A cropped result cannot restore discarded points by expanding its bounds; start from the original instead.
